“It’s Britney Bitch”

What is the public’s fascination with Britney Spears?  Even I am fascinated now, wondering what it is about her that warrants so much publicity.  If she was a talented singer or performer then I could better understand why paparazzi rummage through her garbage bins.  But as it stands, I’m rather perplexed.  Maybe it’s mostly a pre-teen youth market like a Hannah Montana type thing. Is it because she is the media’s bride of Frankenstein, for whom she was created, by which she plummeted to rock bottom in order to (more recently) have a couple comeback albums?

I must admit it was quite clever to originally market her as (male fantasy prototype) an innocent young school girl (“…Baby One More Time”) and then over time reveal that she’s “not that innocent”.  Eventually it becomes clear that she’s a “Slave” or a pawn of Dr. Frankenstein, whose corporate ploy to make loads of money has been successful time and again.

Rolling Stone magazine has called her: “One of the most controversial and successful female vocalists of the 21st century.”  The controversy could be linked to her racy videos and dance moves considering children of all ages attend her concerts. Spears private life has been up for public scrutiny, contributing to the majority of her infamy (be it that most of us know more than we wish to).  Perhaps I have answered my own question by now.  People are fascinated by Britney’s outlandish statements in interviews and the seeming instability or whimsy reflected in her over popularized private life.

Is there hope for Brittney’s music?  I wouldn’t hold your breath there. Will she continue to spark controversy and attract media attention for years to come? Unfortunately, you can count on it.
